“Caravan” of Central American Migrants Heading Through Mexico for US Southern Border

“Caravan” of Central American Migrants Heading Through Mexico for US Southern Border

Plan to cross border by seeking asylum, crossing illegally, or under ongoing “catch and release” policy

In an attempt to overwhelm U. S. Customs and Border Protection, over a thousand Central Americans are marching through Mexico toward the U. S. border.  The goal is to cross our border by seeking asylum, crossing illegally, or by exploiting the ongoing “catch and release” policy.

A Buzzfeed reporter is traveling with the group.

Buzzfeed reports:

For five days now hundreds of Central Americans — children, women, and men, most of them from Honduras — have boldly crossed immigration checkpoints, military bases, and police in a desperate, sometimes chaotic march toward the United States. Despite their being in Mexico without authorization, no one has made any effort to stop them.

Organized by a group of volunteers called Pueblos Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders, the caravan is intended to help migrants safely reach the United States, bypassing not only authorities who would seek to deport them, but gangs and cartels who are known to assault vulnerable migrants.

Organizers like Rodrigo Abeja hope that the sheer size of the crowd will give immigration authorities and criminals pause before trying to stop them.

. . . . When they get to the US, they hope American authorities will grant them asylum or, for some, be absent when they attempt to cross the border illegally. More likely is that it will set up an enormous challenge to the Trump administration’s immigration policies and its ability to deal with an organized group of migrants numbering in the hundreds.

The number of people who showed up to travel with the caravan caught organizers by surprise, and has overwhelmed the various towns they’ve stopped in to spend the night. Pueblos Sin Fronteras counted about 1,200 people on the first day.

Numbers USA estimates the “caravan” consists of “about 1,350 Central Americans.”

Buzzfeed explains that “Organizers estimate that about two-thirds of people are planing [sic] on crossing into the United States undetected or asking for some type of protection like asylum” [emphasis added].

“Undetected” means, of course, illegally.

Here is a short clip of a portion of the march on our southern border:

Typically, I’m not a fan of calling illegal immigration an “invasion,” but it’s hard to think of this onslaught as anything less than an invasion.  Over at Hot Air, Jazz is calling the “caravan of migrants” an “army of illegal aliens.”

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, Mexican immigration authorities are doing nothing to stop the group as it marches through Mexico toward our border.

Five days ago, the caravan set out from Tapachula and began its trek northward. The group chanted “We are migrants. We are not criminals. We are workers.”  (About 80 percent of the group members are Hondurans.)

As they’ve continued to make their way to the U.S., Mexican immigration authorities have allowed the migrants to move with relative ease. On Monday Pueblo Sin Fronteras posted a video with the caption, “The Refugee Caravan knocking down borders yesterday in Huehuetan! Immigration agents abandoned the post when they saw us coming. The people celebrate this first small victory!”

Along the way, the caravan has also received support and supplies from local communities. Reports indicate that the group, up to this point, has chosen to not climb on top of “La Bestia”, a train used by illegal migrants to expedite their trek to the U.S. However, it hopes to utilize the train later in the trek.  (BuzzFeed reports that members of the caravan have practiced by climbing the ladders of parked train cars.)

Border Patrol union leader Brandon Judd tells Fox News that those planning to cross the border illegally are counting on the ongoing “catch and release” policy.

“First off, you have got a Mexican government entity that is assisting these individuals that are coming up to the United States,” Judd told “Fox & Friends.” “These individuals do not have passports or legal documents to be in Mexico, yet you got an agency that’s helping them get to our [U.S.] border.”

Judd said border patrol agents do not have the ability to stop the migrants at the border even if they only step one foot on U.S. soil.

“Once they [the migrants] enter the country, even if we [border patrol agents] are standing at the border with our hands out saying, ‘Don’t enter, don’t enter,’ all they have to do is cross one foot into the border and we have to take them into custody,” Judd said. “If they ask for asylum or say I fear to go back to my country, then we have to process them under ‘credible fear’ which allows them to be released into our country.”

Watch:

When these people reach our southern border it will be vital that they not be permitted to enter our country.  If they are, such caravans will become the norm.

From the Center for Immigration Studies:

Once the caravan arrives at the U.S. border, it will be critical for U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to lean on the new directives provided by the Trump administration. It will be an opportunity to reiterate the message that the United States is serious about border enforcement. Otherwise, the message sent to prospective migrants would be that such caravans are a promising option for gaining access to the United States.

I read the book (The Camp Of The Saints) and it does not turn out well (for Western Civilization).

Trump doesn’t sound like he’s committed to turning them back to me, that’s upsetting.

Expect 15,000 next

This is going to be a shit show and I would bet my last dollar they have HIGE plans to make it so.

Trump/Sessions should arrest the organizers in the group Pueblos Sin Fronteras for conspiracy / assisting illegal immigration. Put those people in prison. They should use civil asset forfeiture laws to seize ALL of the group’s assets.

For the invasion, have the border patrol ready to intercept. Make sure the border patrol agents know Trump has their back and will issue on the sport pardons to the agents. If those people do not show their hands or act threatening, the border patrol agents most know that Trump has their back when they have to use force. I imagine it must be extremely difficult and dangerous to arrest such a large and well organized group of people/invaders.

      Dear Nebel:

Thank you for those wonderful ideas!!!

      President Trump, are you READING???!!!!

Milhouse in reply to nebel. | April 2, 2018 at 5:02 am

Um, excuse me, but how exactly do you imagine Trump or Sessions can arrest members of a Mexican organization, or seize their assets? If you haven’t noticed, neither of them has any authority in Mexico.

And if these people are planning to try to enter the US undetected, then obviously they will not be marching on the border en masse. Their plan is clearly to break up before they reach the border, and from there on it will be each one for himself.

gonzotx, this is what struck me, too, about Trump’s tweets. This has less than zero to do with DACA. To qualify for DACA, one must have been brought to the U. S. prior to 2007 (and meet other age requirements). No one arriving in the U.S. after 2007 can qualify for DACA.

Trump is clearly grandstanding on his DACA “edge” over Democrats, and it seems that he’s going to do so to the detriment of our country (and in direct opposition to about a zillion of his campaign promises). It’s rather sickening.

Here’s hoping he’s just spouting off again and will ensure that this invading horde is turned back.

Close The Fed in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | April 1, 2018 at 3:16 pm

      Dear Fuzzy Slippers:

Of course this has to do with DACA. If they slip in undetected, they can get fake papers (on CL you can find people willing to make you utility records, bank records, the whole she-bang, in one afternoon).

So they claim to be here before.

ALSO, Trump was offering 3 times DACA, which means a whole bunch of additional illegals.

These foreigners know our internal political situation extremely well and are ready, willing and able to PLAY us.

DACA recipients have to have school (K-12) records showing they were brought here prior to 2007 and as children. I’m not sure how that gets faked, but I’m sure it can be.

As to Trump offering 3X DACA . . . didn’t you just make my point that Trump is not going to do a thing about this? He’s claiming his hands and those of Border Control are tied and can’t do a thing about the invasion marching toward our border. Yes, illegals know our internal politics well. So you are saying Trump’s using DACA as an excuse to allow this invasion and every other invasion that is sure to follow? If that’s your point, I agree.

Close The Fed in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | April 1, 2018 at 3:55 pm

With regard to DACA: here is one link to document production:
          https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/lgs/d/15-minute-docs/6545217846.html

Reagan’s amnesty proved to be about 3x larger than advertised.

Also, DHS interviews less than 2% of applicants face to face.

With regard to Trump stating his hands and BP’s hands are tied, in his tweets, he claimed he would use NAFTA to deter Mexico. Admittedly weak tea, but unsure that means he claims his hands are tied.

I agree he’s being useless in this case, but unsure that’s what you said in your original comment. I agree; I hope he turns them back. I also agree he seems unsure or unaware of his powers as commander in chief.

These people are marching on our border as we speak. How long will it take Congress to act? How long will it take Trump to renegotiate NAFTA? Mexico’s laughing at him, so they’re not going to do anything. Trump’s offering time-sucking non-solutions to an imminent problem that will be on our doorstep before the first negotiating committee/gang of Congresscritters can be convened. I have a problem with that.

I’m hearing from Trump: Wow, look at this invasion, it’ll be here any day now. I’m really really outraged! The Dems did it, DACA’s the problem, Mexico’s the problem, NAFTA’s the problem blah blah blah. All are certainly problems, but what’s he going to do about these illegals intent on crossing our border now? Apparently, he’s planning to tweet a lot and shake a blustery fist at Democrats, Mexico, and NAFTA. If you’re good with that, so be it. I am not. My hope is that he wakes the hell up and does something to stop this disaster.

puhiawa in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | April 2, 2018 at 3:07 am

Not true. The Schumer proposal is a permanent DACA. There has not been a single DACA registrant that has submitted a school attendance record. In fact a recent survey showed the majority do not even speak English.

Isn’t it the Democrats who started and exacerbated the DACA game? These same Democrats will champion these people to sanctuary.

Trump is only playing this game because it’s the hand he is dealt. If the “Resistance” would try to work with him, they would get a fair amount of what they want. But do they actually want that, what’s best for all, to succeed as one, or only to find ways to create the divisiveness you lament.

Why are so many people so willing to chase squirrels? This is not about DACA. Not. About. DACA. This is a horde of illegals marching on our border, but yeah, let’s all chirp about DACA while they advance and Trump trolls you about DACA. /smh

Trump was elected to protect our borders, if he can’t manage to do so and instead plays “games” with our national security, economy, and sovereignty, then he’s not up to the job. I’m done with all these excuses for Trump’s failure. If this horde were invading under Obama, you’d all be, quite rightly, ticked off and not babbling nonsense about how poor old Obama’s hands are tied and he’s just doing the best he can. Hmph.

If this is best Trump can do, I’m as impressed as ever with his ability to deflect criticism with non sequitur troll bait, but I am not chasing this DACA squirrel. He can stop this; let’s see if he does.

All roads lede to the Tides Foundation and G. Soros. BUILD THE WALL.

If I break into your house how many warnings are you going to give me before you actually do anything about it?

What if you do nothing and I pass the word around. What do you think is going to happen following night?

We haven’t reached the “them or us” stage. Don’t know when that will happen, if ever. We have a sizeable land area so it’s hard to see when all of us would ever feel we have our backs to the wall. Certain areas are there right now, but they’re spread out.

As a boy I read the 1938 short story, Leiningen and the Ants, Carl Stephenson. Now there’s a guy who saw the hoards coming and took action. Boy, did he take action. There’s a lesson in there for sure.

We all know we are spending billions to defend other countries.

I voted from Trump to DEAL with this.

I want our troops on the border, and shots fired. This is what the damn defense budget is for! Not transsexuals’ operations.

Make an example of a few, and they will stop. If not, keep firing.

These damn socialists from S.A. are our undoing, and will thus undo all the good things America does. We cannot do good things under a socialist system. We will simply impoverish ourselves. Poor people don’t hire employees.

Under the Constitution, Article 4, Section 4, the federal government is TO PROTECT THE STATES FROM INVASION.

If the federal government, including my Senator John Isakson and my Congressman refuse to have the federal government do it’s role, then why in HELL should I obey ONE federal law?

I am FED UP.

Oh, also, if you want to keep up with illegal alien news, legislation, etc., in Georgia, this is an amazing site:

http://www.TheDustinInmanSociety.Org/Blog/

It’s run by a man named D.A. King. One of THE hardest working men I know.

Given that Mexican border agents abandoned their posts and let this mob cross the Guatamalan border, and that the Mexican government has done nothing to stop or disperse the caravan, how can this be considered anything but an act of war?

Close The Fed in reply to Rusty Bill. | April 1, 2018 at 1:32 pm

I agree. If Mexico wants to play this game, then we should give it to them, good and hard.

They are winning with NAFTA, they are getting remittances that drain our economy, and yet Trump is showing NO SPINE.

Man up, Mr. President, and GET THE JOB DONE.

Troops, tanks, Hummers, you name it, on the Border NOW. Do your JOB.

Milhouse in reply to Rusty Bill. | April 2, 2018 at 5:09 am

Mexico has no duty to protect its borders if it doesn’t want to. It certainly has duty to us to protect its southern border, which is none of our f___ing business. Nor does it have any duty to us to stop or disperse anyone within its borders. Describing any of these as acts of war against us is an obvious lie; reacting to them with force would be an act of war against Mexico.

Close The Fed in reply to Milhouse. | April 2, 2018 at 10:05 am

I am happy to go to war with Mexico. A declared war would be best.

They have their presidential candidates campaigning in California. They print booklets to give advice to border crossers into our country.

They do not stop crossers into our country.

They actively criticize us for discussing a Wall.

Their citizens are sending untaxed earnings to Mexico called “remittances.”

They encourage their people to come to America.

Many of these aliens fly Mexican flags in America.

Many of these aliens illegally vote here.

Many of the aliens say they want to make America Mexico again.

      This is plenty for me.

If Mexico won’t stop it, Trump should close all Border Crossings and flights to/from Mexico. A couple days oughtta do it

The number per more in touch sites is more like 5000. These are probably not mostly Central Americans they’re probably more Venezuelans and this is the first wave. Think Italy, think NGOs, think Soros and that’s what this is. If either Gov Abbott or Trump don’t stop it via unusual means, it’s up to the militias.

Exiliado in reply to jack burns. | April 1, 2018 at 3:16 pm

The government of Venezuela is in cahoots with Iran and Hezbollah. Pretty sure there will be more than a few enemy soldiers within those groups.
This is an act of war, and anyone who refusing to see it is a fool.

Close The Fed | April 1, 2018 at 1:52 pm

I find the irony of all of this so thick.

People scream about BAD “colonialism,” yet they yearn for our way of life.

They should just admit it: They want to be colonized by us. Let’s humor them and fix their problems, IN THEIR HOME COUNTRIES, so we can keep our own home the way we prefer it.

This is what we pay an army for.

North Korea, even with its nukes, cannot rein the same destruction on the US that packs of illegal alien invaders will.

Just look at Germany and France.

Now look at America, and the seeks of horror being planted by MS-13, and the other darlings of that traitor obama.

Exactly. What the hell are we paying a military for, if in fact, we are going to tie its hands and NOT PERMIT it to actually defend us?

Why do we have a toy army???!!!

A message to German leadership:

Worry about the jackbooted, goose-stepping Islamic National Socialists in your own house, before you worry about the Islamic National Socialists in the Middle East.

Two years ago, this collection of illegal immigrants would have walked right through the border and into Cali for benefits and housing.

If we had President Hillary now, much the same.

Today? I’m guessing ICE will collect some overtime and we’ll send a number of full flights to Guatemala about a week later. Because if we DON’T, the thousand will turn into ten thousand and a hundred thousand before you can blink.

President Trump is learning first hand what his loose lips offer on DACA has wrought.

THIS is why we DON’T TALK AMNESTY.

Milhouse in reply to Close The Fed. | April 2, 2018 at 5:13 am

Agreed. Even if you think, as I do, that ultimately, once the border is secure, there should be an amnesty, DON’T TALK ABOUT IT, because doing so makes the problem worse. Say that until the border is secure there’s no point in discussing what will happen later.

This “Pueblos Sin Fronteras” group needs to be immediately declared an enemy of the United States, and their actions considered for what they are: an act of war.
They obliterated with feel the full force of our institutions, including our arm forces. Needs to happen NOW.

amwick in reply to Exiliado. | April 1, 2018 at 4:00 pm

That sounds like a plan, until one small child is injured, or, heaven forbid, worse. This is all about optics. Perhaps some kind of serious pressure on Mexico, before they are at the border…

It’s time to quit worrying about the over the top left.

When that cretin Hogg can get Ingraham de-sponsored for her utterly mild tweet, it’s time to say to hell with it.

Just do what needs to be done.

Put the Army, etc., on the border, arm them, and let them defend the United States of America from invasion.

      Period. End of story.

amwick in reply to Close The Fed. | April 1, 2018 at 5:08 pm

I would personally love to see this caravan met with force. Deadly force, I am a rule follower by nature. That doesn’t mean I can’t see it as a terrible problem.

Trump lost lots of credibility with the spendthrift bill.
Not stopping this invasion will be the last straw for a lot of voters.

People mistake blogging and anger for doing something. If this is allowed to be solubilized in politics as usual, welcome to Sweden.

Set the National Guard at the border as they approach. Belt fed machine guns aimed towards Mexico. Fire at anyone who crosses- even the poor innocent peasant woman with babe in arms sent forward as a sacrifice because the easily duped Americans are concerned with public opinion. They’re invaders and need to be treated as such. And a few well placed mortar rounds crossing the border and landing on the crowd would be in order.

Close The Fed in reply to gospace. | April 1, 2018 at 4:14 pm

Exactly. Our own police regrettably shoot and kill our own all the time, yet foreigners invading us are sacred?

How did we become lower than non-citizens??

Milhouse in reply to gospace. | April 2, 2018 at 5:16 am

Set the National Guard at the border as they approach. Belt fed machine guns aimed towards Mexico.

It’s a long border. I don’t think we have enough guardsmen or machine guns to line the whole thing. Going on what these people are saying it seems they’re not planning to storm the border en masse, but to slip across one at a time, undetected (or so they hope). So where do you station the guardsmen and machine guns?

gospace in reply to Milhouse. | April 2, 2018 at 5:58 pm

Complete ignorance on display of strategy and tactics. You don’t need belt fed machine guns along the whole border, just a dew chokepoints where you know there will be crossings. Patrols along the rest along with drones in the sky keeping watch. Or observation balloons with night vision cameras. Combine with a few rapid reaction units, both helo and APC. You’ll probably only need to kill a few score before the rest get the message- DO NOT CROSS THE BORDER ILLEGALLY OR YOU WILL DIE!

We have no moral obligation to give amnesty or shelter to anyone who enters the country unlawfully. And while they’re in the process of invading no legal obligation to ask their surrender before shooting.

Trump should impose increasingly severe sanctions on Mexico everyday, starting tomorrow, so long as the invasion force is not stopped and turned around in Mexico. Mexico is at least the friend of our enemy and should be treated as such, immediately.

Well, maybe we should follow Mexico’s example. After all, Mexico is always right and the U.S. is always wrong. We should meet the caravan at our southern border and escort them on their way north to the Canadian border where they can enjoy the benefits of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s multicultural liberal society.

buckeyeminuteman | April 1, 2018 at 5:07 pm

If the Feds aren’t going to do anything about this then We The People should. Those citizen-patriot patrols of the mid-2000s should. “Nut job” militia groups should. The governors and their national guards should. If Trump isn’t going to do anything about an angry hoard of 1200 invaders, he isn’t serious about border security and we’re never going to get our wall. It’s time for him to nut up or shut up. And it’s time for the rest of us to realize our security is our own responsibility.

Milhouse in reply to buckeyeminuteman. | April 2, 2018 at 5:18 am

Um, what exactly are you suggesting these people do? Invade Mexico?

buckeyeminuteman in reply to Milhouse. | April 2, 2018 at 7:44 am

Be a show of force when the invaders get to the border. Turn them back. Tear gas them so they disperse. Provide actual border security. Shoot if they must but ensure our nation’s security is put ahead of everybody’s offended feelings.

Milhouse in reply to buckeyeminuteman. | April 3, 2018 at 5:17 am

Since according to the story they are not planning to storm the border en masse, but to break up and try to slip across one at a time, at various places along the very long border, how exactly does that work? Where do you wait? How do you detect them? What do you mean by making one person “disperse”?

Interesting; claim that the images are from people celebrating Palm Sunday. No invasion.

https://squawker.org/analysis/ice-claims-mexican-migrant-caravan-is-fake-news-made-up-by-buzzfeed/

I hope this is true and there is no march on our borders. It is not only Easter Sunday, but April Fool’s Day, after all. Then again, the Buzzfeed post was published on the 30th of March, and one would hope that the president has intel on stuff like this before blasting off on Twitter. . . .

Fuzzy, those jokes don’t work anymore. 2018 is the year Democrats made parody obsolete.

Only the Left could screw up April Fool’s Day

So which Democrat politicians and activists will cross the border and escort the aliens back across the border into US? This will be an attempt to give assistance. It should be met with arrests but who knows?

gospace in reply to alaskabob. | April 1, 2018 at 8:41 pm

Once they join a crowd of invaders in a foreign country they’re legitimate targets for the previously mentioned belt fed machine guns and well placed mortar shells.

I am completely fed up with Democrats AND Mexico.

It wouldn’t take all that long to erect a holding pen for these invaders. Basically find a construction company that can throw together a 4 acre chain link fence topped with razor wire on short notice. If it takes longer than a week to do, I’ll be very surprised. I’m sure you can find some local farmer just inside the border that will allow use of some of his land for some reasonable compensation.

It doesn’t have to be pretty, or even very functional. Put a number of portable toilets in it, surround it with the National Guard and instruct them to shoot anyone who attempts to escape. Tell the Progressive screamers who will say it’s inhuman that they can pony up money for food and tents, but that these invaders STAY PUT until they get final immigration hearings on either asylum or deportation for unlawful entry.

Anyone who wants to go back to Honduras, or their country of citizenship can do so at any time. Anyone who wants to stay, stays in the pen until they are either deported, or they’re granted an asylum status (not just applied for, actually granted).

Bomb both runways at Cancun airport at night when no planes are taking off or landing. Shut down the wire transfer of money to Mexico. Use the Airforce to drop foul smelling liquid on the 1200. Start tear gassing them now. Catch the organizers of this, waterboard them to find out who’s financing this and place a $10 million price on their head. If it’s another country then it’s war.

All the stories on this that I’ve read have talked about their intentions when they get to the US, and of the possible responses and lack of options that the US will have upon their arrival.

Has anyone asked them why they want to come to such a racist, bigoted, hatefilled, stupidly deplorable nation of rifle-toting idiots?

If this a fake news can the organizations be charged for seeking funds under false pretenses?

Gaza II…. Anyone thinking that these moves to the border are not linked?
